Self : Your Best Butt Fast

I got my first workout tape in Friday from Netflix.  I got around to trying it tonight for the first time. 


The tape is 45 minutes long.  The workout is broken into three segments along with the warm up and cool down.  The first segment after the warm up is based on kickboxing moves and I will admit I got a little lost during a lot of these moves.  They will take a bit of work and I should be able to get the hang of them.  The second segment is based on dance moves and were a lot easier to catch on to especially considering I can't dance.   And it ends with yoga based moves.  According to the instructor at the end of you do the tape at least three times a week you will see a better butt in 4 short weeks.  We shall see how well it does with two weeks and then I will return it.

Monday Update





Happy Monday!!! 

The phone interview went well last week.  Thanks for all the well wishes.  I have an interview scheduled Wednesday afternoon.  I hope it goes well but I still have mixed emotions about all of it.  Now to figure out what to wear becaues I don't think I can fit back into my suit yet.  And I need to go buy resume paper so I can print off a couple to take with me.  When I start to think about what all I need to do before hand it makes me wonder if it is worth it.  But at least that is keeping my mind off the nerves that come with interviews. 


I spent the weekend doing some more painting around the house.  I finished painting the bay window and cleaning the house. 


In this one you can tell the difference between the builder color I picked and the Pecan.  Not much of a difference but I like the warmer feel the Pecan gives off.



I did go pick up Sizzling Sixteen this weekend along with a couple of other books.

Strawberry Crumble Bars

Well I barely got in the second recipe this month.  I was having trouble deciding on one.  I had a whole list of recipes I couldn't wait to start trying that involve the grill and mine decided to die.  So I decided on a dessert and will be taking the majority to the office so I won't be tempted ot eat them all.   I got this one from the Bisquick cookbook.


Strawberry Crumble Bars

2 c. bisquick
1 c. quick-cooking oats
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
1 c. strawberry spreadable fruit jam or preserves


Heat oven to 400°.  Grease square pan, 9x9x2 inches.  Mix bisquick, oats and brown sugar in large bowl.  Cut in margarine, using fork or pastry blender, until mixture is crumbly. 
Press half of the crumbly mixture in pan.  Spread spreadable fruit over crumbly mixture to within 1/4 inch of edges.  Top with remaining crumbly mixture; press gently into fruit.


Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown; cool.  For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. 


 
Drizzle with melted chocolate if you like.  I didn't have any in the house so I didn't do that tonight.



I totally admit this was my dinner tonight.  I had three of bars, one for myself, one for Beth and one for Maddy.

Wednesday

This week seems to be dragging by to me.  It is only Wednesday but it sure feels like it should be Friday.  But them I am so ready for the weekend.  I have a few projects I would like to work more on.  And maybe run down to Oxford for the day because that always makes me feel better. 
I got a call yesterday from a recruiter at a friends company and will have a phone interview on tomorrow afternoon.  I will admit I am nervous about working there only because an exes wife works there in the same area.  We of course have mutual friends and did before we dated and the couple times I have been around all of them she spends all her time giving me the evil eye when we are in the same room.  Trust me she has no worries I don't want him.  But it does make me nervous because I don't want to start there just for someone on a personal agenda tries to make my workday a living hell.  I already have a tough work day without that and am wanting out of that kind of situation.  I really wish I would here from the two government jobs I put in for at the end of May.  I heard from the third one telling me no, so I am going with that means I am still in consideration for the other two. 
I decided to go back to treating myself once a month.  And this week I am going to by a new book, Sizzling Sixteen this weekend.  That is if I get in in all my workouts which include 3 cardio, 2 strength and on ab workout.  So far I am on track. 

Summer has hit with a huge punch here in Mississippi.  Our temps are all 99 or 97 this week.  Which means either getting up really early on the weekends to mow or late at night.  I am heading out about 8 tonight to mow the backyard.  I hope it has cooled off a bit by then.

Update

I have to admit the last two weeks have been an almost bust with workouts and eating.  I have only gotten in on strength workout during that time.  I have been worn out from  all the stress at work.  The office is getting to me more this summer than it has in years past (summer is out busy season). 
So Friday I took off to have the pest control come.  And get ahead on a bunch of stuff around the house that I have been slacking on too.  I came up with a page of items on a to do list for the weekend and I have to admit I got about 3/4 of it done and added in a few extra things.   One of which was painting the inside of the window frames Friday night.  After painting the office and guest room I know it is a pain to paint around the hardware for the blinds.      



In the past I have enjoyed all the light that comes in without the blinds on the bay window. But the added electric bills have made me finally decide to add the blinds.



I painted them the same Pecan color I painted the guest room.
With some encourgement from Beth and the use of JF's drill I put the blinds up all by myself.



Ms. Belle on the other hand was not into all the noise and mess that this project caused this weekend. 

I got some cleaning done and rearranged the living room.  I still have some cleaning to finish up, the main things I didn't get to this weekend. 
I did get to have some fun this weekend too.  I got my hair done Saturday morning.  And I did some shopping.  I picked up after much thought and the fact it was still there and the store opened after my hair appointment picked up this.




I found it on sale for 40% off in my pattern. 

S and I got to spend some time together at the Farmer's Market Saturday morning.  I picked up some jelly, sourdough bread, and blackberries.  I also went down to S & JF's house Saturday night for dinner and got to play with H for a couple hours.  I even got to help with bathtime.  I think the parents were disappointed I didn't get a bath too. 

I can't beleive how fast my three day weekend flew by.  Back to the grind in the morning.  And of course back to the gym this week without any excuses.

Jaxs is my eldest nephew and what a treat he has been.  Even the calls and texts early in the morning.

And the best part for this sweet fella is that he gets two days of celebrations.  Yes, due to the time difference between the USA and Japan he is getting two celebrations this year.

Roasted Red Potatoes with Bacon and Cheese



I have to admit this is my second choice of recipes to try this week.  I bought the red potaotes last week tto use in a new recipe that used the grill.  And then the grill was dead.  So now I need to get someone to agree to help me get a new one and I hope I can get it by the end of the month but we shall see.


Roasted Red Potatoes with Bacon and Cheese

1/2 c. ranch dressing
1/2 c. finely shredded Italian Style Five Cheese Blend
1/4 c. real bacon bits
2 pounds red potatos, quartered
1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

Preheat oven to 350°.  Mix dressing, cheese, and bacon bits in a large bowl.  Add potatoes; toss lightly.
Spoon into lightly greased 13x9 inch baking dish; cover with foil.
Backe 40 minutes remove foil; bake an additional minutes or until potatoes are tender.  Sprinkle with Parsley



I mixed two ranch dressings that I had in the fridge, Three Cheese and Creamy Parmesan.  I thought the receipe called for cheddar cheese which I had on hand when I made my grocery list this morning (should check the recipes more carefully).  I used the Authentic Mexican blend instead of the Italian cheese.  And the other thing I forgot was the parsley.  Oh well I will at least have an idea of the recipe.   And will have to remember next time.




They turned out really yummy!

Vacation planning

Yep I am planning another vacation.  This time with my grandmother.  And we might see if any other family want to go along for the ride.  Two years ago we went to Charleston for several days.  It was a great getaway and a place we both wanted to visit.  Well okay she had been but beacuase I wanted to go so badly she agreed to go there, no doubt she is the best (or one of the two best).  On the way home we started talking about doing another trip next year but due to other events we couldn't go last year.  And this time it is her choice.   And boy has she picked a great place.  Savannah, GA.  And this time it is a place neither of us have been.  I had the brainy idea to get a beach condo instead of a hotel and stay a week.  With no kids we can go in the off season and get great deals.  Still working out where to stay but found some nice ones on Hilton Head Island.  I have always heard how beautiful the beaches are there.  Has anyone been to Savannah?  If you have what are the places we should not miss? 
Oh and we are planning on hitting Charleston again for a day to see a few things we missed. 

I hope that we get to go this year.  Only time will tell with work.  But I am saving no matter what.

All smiles

I am all smiles today.  Last night I tried on a skirt I haven't been able to wear in at least 2 years.  And oh Happy Day it fit.  I had to wear it to work today.  And it was a big motivator to keep up my workouts.  I hit the gym tonight after work.  And now I need to head into the living room and do my first strength workout of the week.  Yep I have been a bit of a slacker with those this week but there is still time to get in two.
I am not going to spoil the joy of fitting into the skirt for a week or two by trying on anything else.

Netflix

I bit the bullet and joined Netflix last month.  I don't have any of the movie channels except for the ones Directv gives me for free as anniversary gifts.   And to be honest I would prefer to watch a movie at home where I can have the snacks I want and not deal with the rude people. 
I have been catching up on the movies I wanted to see and never got a chance in the theatres.  Not to mention watching one or two (so far) of the classics that are on all those must see lists.    Thankfully there is a distribution center in Memphis so I get the movies pretty fast. 
I am going to upgrade to the two movies at one time package this month.  That way I can have a movie to watch and try out different workout videos.  When I found out they had workout tapes too I decided it was worth a try.  I am looking forward to trying out different tapes.  I know I won't be getting board with workouts then.

Workout update

I am enjoying the Kettlebell workouts.  I got in two workouts last week and two so far this week.  And I can already tell I will be sore after tonights workout too.  The kettlebell also came with a workout dvd that I have a goal of using this weekend.   I have not noticed any differences yet.  But as sore as I am after each workout still I think there will be some if I stick with it. 
I also threw in one ab workout last week.  I am hoping to get in two ab workouts this week.  I did one last night and I am still sore.  Last week I did the crunchless ab moves from Self magazine.  I love those tear out cards that they have in each issue.  I keep all the ones that look interesting and these really appealled to me because it was ab workout without the crunches. 
Now I just need to keep it up and this muffin top will start to disappear, right?
