The fair is in town. We went Tuesday night. I am loving the weather is getting cooler in the evenings. I only got tickets to ride a few rides. let's face it I went for an order of fried oreos which I got as we were leaving.
G and Mrs.P hanging out.
S and H waiting for the bumblebee ride to start.
Me, S and H riding the huge slide. It was a great leg workout getting that high up.
G only got to ride the Merry Go Round and Ferris Wheel.
I went for the weekend to New Orleans to hang out with friends. Saturday WL & I got up and went to Zumba (the only workout I have had in a week). It was great to go and boy did she work us. But then we went and blew them with sausage biscuits. We spent the afternoon downtown after eating lunch at Parkway Bakery for Po-Boys. after lunch we headed out to ride the trolley car.
JB looking for the trolley car. He was so excited to ride one.
WL and JB waiting on a trolley car. They were pretty busy and we had to wait for cars that weren't so packed.
Can you spot the beads hanging in the tree?
After the trolley car we went to the WWII museum.
I only got a couple pictures before finding out no pictures were allowed in the museum. Oops!!!
After going through the museum we stopped at the Soda Shop in the museum. I didn't get any pictures but it looked like one from the 1940s. I got the Red Velvet milkshake. The milkshake was to die for.
Sunday we hung around the house and friends came by for ribs. It was a great lazy Sunday. I didn't take any pictures though. I got up and left Monday when they went to work and slowly made my way back. I took off on Highway 61 and came back up through the Mississippi Delta. I thought I would stop at Vicksburg and see the battlefield but it has just rained.
I saw a lot of this.
and this interesting display while at a stop light.
Friday morning I headed down to New Orleans for the Mary Payton Miracles Can Happen Benefit. It was held at the Benedict's Plantation in Mandeville. I spent the weekend at X and WL's house and we went together.
Sorry this is small it is from my IPhone. I went with the first dress from this post. S reminded me on the way down that the theme was black & white.
The Lombardi trophy won by the Saints was on display and you could take pictures with it.
I loved the centerpieces.
You could buy a wineglass to have it refilled all night. They had a lot to chose from and I was sad that the Ole Miss ones were gone by the time we got there. I was tempted with the Halloween and Christmas ones but finally decided on the Fleur De Lis.
I got home Monday night from New Orleans. I decided to leave Belle at the boarders until Tuesday morning. I wanted to get a few things done around the house without her under foot. One of the things I Have been wanting to do for months is paint the front door. The blue the builder painted it was beginning to fade out at the bottom and I had leftover paint from the desk project.
This is what the front looked like about 2 years ago.
My front door this morning.
My new door!!!
I got a few spots on the wall. Oops! I guess it makes painting that wall my next project.
The last couple of weekends have been busy. Last weekend (9/16-9/17) was the Water Tower Festival. I was going to go down for the day to see the craft vendors and instead S got me to volunteer. Originally I was only going to help out Saturday night but ended up going down Friday night too.
There was a BBQ contest. I am not sure what the name of the team was that won but they were sure partying up Saturday afternoon and night.
Not the winners but their spot was cute. And put me in the mood for my trip to New Orleans this past weekend. I saw a lot of them as they were right next to the volunteer area.
The bud guys were only doing draft. This is the first time I have ever seen the taps on the outside of a semi trailer. I spent the weekend working with my friend M and the Miller guys with their stands. Friday night I wasn't sure I would ever have feeling after pulling cokes out to count down.
I didn't make it to the craft fair until the end because for some reason I insisted on watching our whole game. Why when we lost by what we did I don't know.
A bad picture. I got a moment to stop and see Jerrod Niemann perform Saturday night. I had a pass that got me backstage but never got to meet him. So sad!!
Even if I was working the whole time I had a blast. and we started planning a girls night out.
My favorite pro football team is the Chicago Bears.
You ask how did this Southern Belle ended up being a Bears fan and not a Saints or Falcons. Or even the Cowboys like my father and uncle. Super Bowl Sunday was always a holiday in our house and you could stay up late to finish watching the game. In 1985 my father decided it was time that I was old enough to bet on the game. I was in the second grade and we bet my $5 report card money. And since it was my first bet he let me pick the team first.
I picked the Bears because I love teddy bears. My father still laughs about me picking a team because I like teddy bears and sticking with them after winning a $5 bet, which by the way it took almost 3 years to collect my winnings. And for that matter we only bet 3 or 4 times because I kept winning.
One day I am going to get the DVD of the 1985 team doing the Super Bowl shuffle.
Gotta love coach Mike Ditka for always telling it like he sees it. Wonder who pissed him off that day?
Some of my most beloved past and present players
William "The Fridge" Perry
And the most beloved of all Bears players
Walter "Sweetness" Perry
Living in Memphis it is a real treat to see the Bears play when it is not the Sunday or Monday night game.
I am glad I got to see the opening day game Sunday and their wonderful 9/11 tribute.
If it has anything to do with Strawberry Shortcake then I owned it. My bedroom was also all decked out in the bedding, and curtains.
After I pledged ZTA I pulled out my twin bed sheets and took them to college with me.
Of course in the days before cell phones my grandmother took off to do the Christmas/birthday shopping (which is at least an hour drive for her) and after seeing the Strawberry Shortcake dolls she called my parents to find out if they had it right because the dolls were ugly. Now I am not sure if she used a pay phone or waited until she got home. Why would she think they were ugly? Yes I was in my teens when I found out and was still hurt for my girl.
A set of the dolls. My father had other issues with my beloved dolls. My old man has sinus issues big time. And the sweet smell of the ladies and gents really messed with them. Mainly when I would stick them under his nose saying "Daddy smell."
I dressed up as the Purple Pieman one year for Halloween. I don't have those pictures here.
My grandmothers get along real well. I have one of these dolls. One grandmother bought the fabric and supplies and the other made them. My beloved Nanny bought the supplies as she can hardly sew a button and Grandmother put them together.
A couple years ago Grandmother decided to clean out her attic and informed the boys to come get the stuff that was stored there or she was getting rid of it. But gotta love no deadline on it. In the box of the parents were several pairs of Strawberry Shortcake shoes in all different sizes and at least one pair didn't look like I got to wear them very often before hitting a growth spurt.
I used my sleeping bags all until the end of 6th grade for sleepovers.
Beth and I were very excited to see a lot of our beloved childhood toys come back out when Maddy was at the age we loved them. Though I don't know about Beth but I was a little sad to see her with an updated look and a few old friend replaced. But she is still all cute!
